QuickBeam Start a free transfer

An honest guide to browser-based file sharing

Why use QuickBeam when you do not want to install anything?

QuickBeam is built for the moment when you want to move a few files between devices and would rather not create an account or install another program. Open the receiving browser, scan a QR code, choose files on the sender, and let the browsers handle the transfer.

No-install does not mean QuickBeam is always the best tool. AirDrop, Quick Share, cloud drives, USB cables, messaging apps, and dedicated transfer tools can all be excellent choices. The best option depends on your devices, file sizes, privacy needs, connection, and whether the task is occasional or repeated.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. No account to create

The free transfer workflow begins immediately. This reduces setup for a one-time transfer and avoids creating another password or cloud folder.

  2. No native app to install

QuickBeam runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Linux. An optional PWA shortcut is available, but it is not required.

  3. One QR code pairs the devices

The destination shows a temporary QR code. Scanning it opens the corresponding sender page, so there is no device-name search or manual pairing code.

  4. Files are encrypted before upload

The sender browser encrypts file contents and names. The decryption key stays in the private URL fragment and is used by the receiving browser, not sent to QuickBeam's server.

  5. Know when another solution is better

Choose a cable for offline speed, a cloud service for backup and synchronization, or a platform feature such as AirDrop or Quick Share when both devices support it and it meets your needs.

Good to know

  • QuickBeam is strongest for selected, on-demand files rather than automatic photo-library backup.
  • Both devices need a live connection and must keep their browser sessions open during transfer.
  • The free version supports five files per transfer and 32 MB per file; QuickBeam Unlimited supports unlimited file count and files up to 2 GB during its one-year term.
  • The receiving device must have enough memory and storage for large downloads.

Frequently asked questions

Is QuickBeam really free without sign-up?

The standard transfer is free and requires no account. It has limits of five files per transfer and 32 MB per file. The optional one-year Unlimited version is a single payment and uses an email activation link rather than a conventional account password.

Is a browser transfer better than installing an app?

It is easier for occasional use and mixed device types. An installed app can be better for frequent transfers, background operation, local-network discovery, offline transfer, or automatic synchronization.

What does end-to-end encrypted mean here?

QuickBeam encrypts the selected file in the sending browser and decrypts it in the receiving browser. The server handles encrypted chunks and does not receive the URL-fragment key needed to read them. This does not protect a file after it is downloaded onto an unsafe device.

Is Quick Beam the same as QuickBeam?

QuickBeam is the product name, written as one word. People sometimes search for it as “Quick Beam”; both refer to quickbeam.app in this guide.
